Tip Calculator

A tip calculator works out the gratuity on a bill, adds it to the total, and splits the result across a group, removing the awkward mental math at the exact moment a server is waiting and your table is looking at you. The percentage is applied to the bill you enter, which raises a genuine decision: tipping on the pre-tax subtotal versus the tax-included total. Tipping on the post-tax amount slightly increases the gratuity, since you are tipping on the tax as well, so for an exact pre-tax tip enter the subtotal rather than the final total. A round-up toggle bumps the per-person figure up to the next whole unit, which makes cash handling easier and nudges the effective tip slightly higher. Splitting is even division across the headcount; it does not itemize who ordered what, so for an uneven split where one person had far more, you would adjust shares manually. Tipping norms vary widely by country: 18 to 20% is customary for table service in the United States, much of Europe tips around 5 to 10% or includes service automatically, and in Japan tipping is generally not expected at all. The tool is currency-agnostic, so the same math applies to any currency you enter.
