PDF metadata is the descriptive information stored alongside a document's visible content: its title, author, subject, keywords, the software that created it, and creation and modification timestamps. This information is hidden from the page but readable by anyone who inspects the file, which is why it matters for privacy. The privacy angle is the most important use. PDFs exported from word processors and design apps routinely embed the author's real name, the application and version used, and exact timestamps. The clear-all action removes the standard fields so the document carries no identifying information out the door. Editing is equally useful for fixing a wrong title that a tool auto-generated, correcting an author field, or adding searchable keywords. A technical limitation to know: this tool reads the standard PDF information dictionary, which holds title, author, subject, keywords, and dates. Many modern PDFs also carry an XMP metadata stream, a separate richer block of metadata, and that XMP stream is not currently displayed or cleared here, so a truly exhaustive scrub may need a dedicated metadata tool as well. For the common fields that leak the most personal detail, though, this viewer gives you full visibility and control.
